The European governments haven't learned their lessons from the humanitarian desaster of Lampedusa: Safe and legal access to the European asylum system is necessary, says Jürgen Bast, expert in European refugee law from the University of Gießen - as well as a resettlement program for migrants that can neither return to their home countries nor stay in their temporary receiving country, and economical free movement of acknowledged refugees to disburden the receiving countries.
